We are 3 weeks away from Spring Follies 2025, one of the highlights of the school year. For parents or family members who would like to help get involved this year, we have a number of different ways that you can do so! Since Follies is a big production, they will all require time in the last few weeks leading up to the performance.

  • Helping with stage transitions

  • Costumes and make-up

  • Microphones and tech help

Dr. Seuss Week Celebration!

This week, we’re celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday in Kindergarten through 2nd grade with a week full of fun activities, dress-up days, and, of course, lots of reading!

Tuesday: Crazy Sock Day – "Take a Step Into Reading!" Students are encouraged to wear their wackiest socks.

Thursday: Crazy Hair Day – "Thing 1 & Thing 2 Day!" Let’s see those wild and creative hairstyles!

This celebration is a fun way for teachers and parents to inspire a love for reading. Dr. Seuss’ books may be silly, but they help our students grow in their reading skills while sharing plenty of laughs along the way!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. Let’s make it a fantastic week of reading fun! 📚🎉

ACE Scholarship 2025-2026 Applications Opening

The 2025-2026 ACE Scholarship application for new and returning students opened on Monday, February 3, 2025. Applications will close on Tax Day (April 15, 2025) at 11:59 p.m. in the time zone of the school. Detailed information for applying can be found on their website. ACE scholarship awards are first come, first served and income-based (see financial guidelines chart below). Students who received ACE last year are also required to complete an application. ACE can be used in combination with EFA funds.. Please contact the Legacy office if you have any questions or need help with your application.

Education Freedom Accounts (EFA) Applications are NOW OPEN!

Applications for 2025-2026 EFA open Monday, March 3rd! Remember, ALL families will be eligible to receive EFA next year!

All families, new and returning, will be required to create an account and submit an EFA application for the 25-26 school year. New and returning families can begin the application process by clicking on the application link at https://dese.link/efa. The primary parent or guardian will need to create an account with FACTS. If you already have a FACTS account, simply log in using your existing credentials. For new users, create an account first, then log in through the application portal.

Once logged in, the primary EFA contact will complete the application by providing personal and demographic information. The next section of the application will collect student data, allowing families to add multiple students under the same family login.

Renewal applicants will be asked to answer a few questions about their current experience in the program but will not need to upload additional documents.

New applicants will need to complete the full application and provide proof of Arkansas residency and verification of student date of birth (such as a birth certificate or other official document).

Typically, applications take up to 10 days to process. However, due to the high volume of applications expected in the first priority window, approvals may take longer during the initial review period

Q3 funds are now available in the new ClassWallet platform for existing EFA families. Families have been sent an invoice via email from the Legacy office. Please call the office if you need help setting up your new ClassWallet portal, paying your invoice, or if you have not received an invoice.

Bus Drivers & Substitutes Needed

We need substitutes who can help fill positions when a teacher is absent. We also need bus drivers to help transport students to athletic events and field trips. Please see the office for details on each of these. Thank you!

Parenting Corner

From Mr. Bob Nix:

Recently I came across this letter written by a teen to their parents. Take a minute to read and remember that we must always see our children as in process, on the way to becoming all that God has created them to be.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Please stick with me. I can’t think clearly right now because there is a rather substantial section of my prefrontal cortex missing. It’s a fairly important chunk, something having to do with rational thought. You see, it won’t be fully developed until I’m about 25. And from where I sit, 25 seems a long way off. My brain is not yet fully developed.

It doesn’t matter that I’m smart; even a perfect score on my math SAT doesn’t insulate me from the normal developmental stages that we all go through. Judgement and intelligence are two completely distinct things. The same thing that makes my brain wonderfully flexible, creative and sponge-like also makes me impulsive. Not necessarily reckless or negligent but more impulsive than I will be later in life. You respond to situations rationally, but I am more inclined to respond emotionally. And when you ask, “What were you thinking?” the answer is I wasn’t, at least not in the way you are. Please stick with me.

Here’s what you can do for me:

1. Model adulting. I see all the behaviors that you are modeling, and I hear all of the words you say. I seem impervious to your advice, like I’m wearing a Kevlar vest, but your actions and words are penetrating. I promise. If you keep showing me the way, I will follow even if I detour at times before we reach our destination.

2. Let me figure things out for myself. If you allow me to experience the consequences of my own actions I will learn from them. Please give me a little bit of leash and let me know that I can figure things out for myself. The more I do, the more confidence and resilience I will develop.

3. Tell me about you. I want you to tell me all the stories of the crazy things you did as a teen, and what you learned from them. Then give me the space to do the same.

4. Help me with perspective. Keep reminding me of the big picture. I will roll my eyes at you and make all kinds of grunt-like sounds. I will let you know in no uncertain terms that you can’t possibly understand any of what I’m going through. But I’m listening. I really am. Help me scan out and focus on the long view. Remind me that this moment will pass.

5. Be kind. I will learn kindness from you and if you are relentless in your kindness to me, someday I will imitate that behavior. Don’t ever mock me, please and don’t be cruel. Humor me-I think I know everything.

6. Show interest in the things I enjoy. Some days I will choose to share my interests with you, and it will make me feel good if you validate those interests, by at least acting interested. One day when the haze of adolescence lifts, you will find a confident, strong, competent, kind adult where a surly teenager once stood. In the meantime, buckle in for the ride.

7. Show me the reality of God’s presence in your life. I am always watching and learning from you.

Love,

Your Teenager
