LA News -- February 12th

Basketball State Tournament This Week


This is the final week of basketball season as our senior teams travel to the state tournament! The Lady Warriors won their HCAA 1A Regional Title in Hot Springs on Saturday. The Warriors captured third place in a tough region and both teams will play in the state tournament on Tuesday in Fort Smith. If the teams win on Tuesday, they will play again on Friday in Shawnee Oklahoma (HCAA is the Christian Athletic Association for schools in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.) If the teams must win again on Friday to advance to the championship on Saturday. Details for Friday will come after Tuesday's games.

TUESDAY: Boys' game 1pm, the girls play immediately after at 230pm.

Games will be held at Trinity Catholic School, Fort Smith, 1205 S Albert Pike Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72903.



Winter Break -- 2/17 to 2/20


Winter break is Friday, February 17, and Monday, February 20. There will be no school those days.


Athletics Photos and Retakes

Athletics photos and picture retakes are scheduled for February 24th. Athletics photos will be taken for all track, basketball, and Pee Wee teams. Pee Wee parents, if you have not returned your uniform please do so with the front office BEFORE picture day!

If your student needs picture retakes, please call the office or email Mrs. Kesterson at Cynthia.Kesterson@legacymail.org.


Battle of the Books

Students in lower levels are actively preparing for the upcoming Battle of the Books competitions that will be held in March. Reading lists were sent home in January. If your child needs another one, please reach out to your child's teacher or Ms. Fisk. Books can be checked out through the school library or can be found at the local public libraries. Ms. Wendy at the Lockesburg Library has all of the competition books ready for checkout.


Competition dates are as follows:

  • March 2: Ms. Gallagher's Class

  • March 3: Mrs. Teague's Class

  • March 9: Ms. Wright's Class

  • March 10: Mrs. Marshall's, Mr. Smallwood's, and Mrs. McCleskey's Classes

Oratory Program -- March 9

Our Oratory Program will be taking place on Thursday, March 9. This event is a chance for our older students to demonstrate their speaking and communication skills as the culmination of the three stages of classical learning: knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.


Featuring our Rhetoric students, the program will consist of various readings from famous literature, historical speeches, dialogues, and passages of scripture. Students will be assigned their readings shortly and should begin the process of learning these. Rehearsal dates and times will be forthcoming.


Spring Follies -- Thursday, April 6

The funniest show of the year is approaching once more! Spring Follies is a highlight of the school year and this year is happening on Thursday, April 6. There will also be no school on Friday in observance of Good Friday.


As preparations ratchet up over the next few weeks, students will have lines to learn, props to help make, and acting to master. Follies is a highlight for everybody, and we love the sense of fun and community that it builds as we all laugh together!


Spring Formal -- Saturday, April 22

The 2022-2023 Spring Formal will be held on April 22 for Freshman-Seniors. The evening will begin with dinner at Pecan Point at 5:00 pm and continue with dancing at the Texarkana Regional Arts Center from 6:00-10:00 pm. Tickets are now available online and include the price of admission and dinner. You will be prompted to choose your meal option and sides at checkout. Tickets must be purchased by March 17th. Parents are also welcome to attend with the purchase of a ticket!
